Keck Students for Sustainability (KSFS)

Mission Statement: Greening medicine at USC.
Description of Organization: KSFS is a student-run organization providing students, faculty, and the local community with an opportunity to learn ways to incorporate sustainable living practices into their lives and to raise awareness about the effects of environmental pollution on human health. KSFS will also serve as an open forum for students to come together to discuss ideas, share concerns, and complete community service aimed at improving the health of our environment and our community.
Current Eco-Initiatives: KSFS coordinates a CSA (community-supported agriculture) program at HSC that has been received with enthusiasm by both USC students and faculty. Bringing the ethos of local, organic produce even closer to home, the organization pairs up with fellow students and community members to work on a community garden at Clinica Oscar Romero. Their other primary focus is working with Facilities Management Services to improve recycling on campus.
Past Eco-Accomplishments: This is a new club for 2010-2011 school year.
Future Eco-Goals: The group would like to bring more sustainable practices such as composting and recycling to HSC, including a white paper recycling program that they are currently looking into. They would also like to build out a website with links and information for sustainable living in LA geared toward students and faculty.
